Maluna Pono'i is Created

Aloha!!  Paige and I would like to welcome you to the very first issue of your District 5000 newsletter, "Maluna Pono'i" (Above Self).  Communication is key to successful Rotary work and this newsletter is not restricted to a once a month publication.

We encourage you to visit your District 5000 website as well.  Take a look around and discover the magic of rotary in Hawaii.  You'll find information about Hawaii Rotary clubs, significant projects that are on going and completed; information about our ongoing district programs, and information about the upcoming district conference on Maui and other district events.   We welcome your comments and suggestions on how to improve it.

Encourage your club members to be a part of this website.  They will need to submit their name, email address, and club name.  Members will be able to log into the members area to see schedules, training, district members' contact information and other restricted information.  They will also receive their own copy of Maluna Pono'i via email.

I am so proud to have been chosen as District Governor for Hawaii and I want to welcome all of you  to this years theme -- Rotary Shares. You are now part of the team that will show the world how Rotary in Hawaii Shares.  Let's Rock the Rock!!!

Yours in Rotary,

~ DG George

35th Anniversary Celebration

Club members and 41 guests from our sister Rotary clubs of Feng Yuan Taiwan, and Abiko and Hiroshima Japan, enjoyed two celebratory events – the welcome reception at the Outrigger
Canoe Club on June 29, and the combined anniversary and installation dinner at the Waialae Country Club on June 30.  Read the rest of the story and see the pictures in their July 6th Tiki Waha

4th of July in Lahaina ... in Grand Rotary Style!!

submitted by Kate Bahr, RC of Lahaina Sunrise

For the seventh year in a row, Historic Lahaina Town hosted the fireworks on July 4, 2007.

The Fourth of July celebration in Lahaina was coordinated by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise. The cost of the fireworks was funded in its entirety by the businesses, resorts and the community of West Maui.

Over 15 members of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise were involved in the event from set-up, take down, garbage duty, fundraising, planning, and running the event booths.  The Club really pulled together to make the event happen.

The fireworks were visible from many vantage points throughout Lahaina Town. Great viewing was also possible from parks, beaches and mauka neighborhoods.

A 2007 commemorative limited edition 4th of July Tee Shirt was available at booths on the street. All profits from the sale of the shirt went towards Rotary scholarships and community projects.
