November 25, 2023 | District Governor Mark Merriam | Volume 04

November is Rotary Foundation Month

Aloha Fellow Rotarians,

Our clubs have found many ways to celebrate Rotary Foundation month. Thanks to every Rotarian who has already made a contribution.

We know that generous gifts to The Rotary Foundation help create lasting change in communities both close to home and around the world. I encourage you to make your own contribution to support this important work. Giving Tuesday is a perfect way to make a difference.

Hawaii Rotary has recently benefited from 2 disaster relief grants from The Rotary Foundation to support our Maui fire relief efforts. $25,000 from TRF has provided students and families with books, school supplies and water. Another $24,000 has supported Pu’uhonua O Nene, a housing shelter for survivors experiencing homelessness before the disaster. Funds purchased a golf cart to move people and supplies, and six 3,000-gallon water containers for dispensing drinkable water.

Locally, we have seen TRF funds through the many district grant projects and international service projects.

Please help continue these efforts with your donation on this Giving Tuesday, November 28.

Be inspired and watch this short video, it includes our own PDG Naomi Masuno reading to a child: Rotary Giving Tuesday video

Feel the Power of Rotary  at the Convention in Singapore

by Nancy Cabral, DGN

Why should you go to the International Convention? You will experience the excitement when you are surrounded by the global grandeur of it all. You'll get ‘Chicken Skin’ while seeing the country flags paraded at the opening ceremony.  You feel Rotary’s breadth when you are among thousands of others living up to Service Above Self. You will see fellow people of action fill an arena around you, and you might hear a dozen languages while walking around the House of Friendship. Hear from inspiring speakers and meet potential friends with the same conviction for service!

The RI Convention will be Singapore, May 26-29.  General sessions will be at The National Stadium.  Events will be at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Center. The Convention starts with the opening of the House of Friendship on Saturday and the Opening General Session is on Sunday, May 26.  There will be breakout sessions with interesting topics from Monday to Wednesday and the Grand Finale Closing session is on Wednesday.

Mark Your Calendar for our Hawaii District 5000 Dinner on Sunday, May 26 at the Holiday Inn Atrium around 5:00 PM.
