A Message From District Governor Nancy Cabral
March is here and we have lots to do in the coming months. We hope to invite more people to join us in Rotary so we can expand our good works at home and around the world. March is a great month to ‘Reach One’ and ‘Invite One’ to a meeting, service project or social. Our lives are better because we joined Rotary.  So, think of family, friends, and co-workers, who will benefit from membership.

Rotarians are Change Makers – Action Takers – People of Action
Plans are being developed to have Community Service Projects throughout the State during the month of April.  Major environmental clean-up projects are being planned by clubs working together to ‘Create Lasting Change’ to our Island.  Please join your club for Service Project District wide.

Mark your calendar for a Global Service Project from May 2 to 9.  Plans are being finalized to travel to Pohnpei, Micronesia to work with the Rotary Club of Pohnpei at Health Fairs to teach basic health and first aid.  And prepare for our International Rotary Convention in Taipei, Taiwan from June 13 to 17 (Be sure to come early and stay late to see more and do more). These are great opportunities to learn more about our neighbors and the world through Rotary.

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Month

Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life. When people have access to clean water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children stay healthier and attend school more regularly, and mothers can spend less time carrying water and more time helping their families. Through water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs, Rotary’s people of action mobilize resources, form partnerships, and invest in infrastructure and training that yield long-term change.

Since 2013, The Rotary Foundation has invested in more than $130 million in over 2000 projects worldwide. Through this investment, our volunteers of action have improved access to safely managed and basic WASH services to communities, schools and healthcare facilities, while protecting and conserving water resources.

Stories
Young Professional Exchange
D5000 is starting up a Young Professional Exchange (YPE) program, similar to the GSE (Group Study Exchange) program, which was discontinued years ago.  YPE is a Rotary District created program intended for young professionals (Rotarians or non-Rotarians) 25 to 35 years old. The purpose is to provide young professionals with opportunities for cultural immersion and professional development abroad with the goal of building a new generation of global leaders with global experience and perspectives.  This program allows participants to gain cultural experiences, observe and engage with their professional fields, share skills and build international and personal relationships with other countries. They will also have the opportunity to network with professionals in their field, participate in humanitarian service projects and build relationships with host families and other Rotarians.

Did you know that Rotary members over the age of 50 can make gifts that unlock income for themselves and loved ones? Join to learn how you can make gifts that secure your financial future and your Rotary legacy. Together, we will discuss how to:
  • Unlock a stream of lifetime income with a gift of cash or appreciated securities,
  • Reduce or delay capital gains tax that would be due if you sold the assets outright,
  • Turn illiquid assets like real estate into a meaningful gift that provides income and other tax benefits,
  • Give from your IRA while deferring taxable income and satisfying your required minimum distribution requirements,
  • Receive Major Donor or Arch Klumph Society recognition for the full amount of your gift, and
  • Support the Foundation programs closest to your heart and create your Rotary legacy.
There are many ways to give and support the causes you care about most. In this webinar, we will explore how your values can align with your financial goals, and how to plan for the greatest impact.
