3R's Series: Rebalance & Refresh with Rotary!
Hope you are well and ready for a new First Friday series! On July 3rd, we kick off this mental health wellness fun, creative and healthy, 30-40 minutes series at 5:30pm (log in at 5:15pm for the pre-show tidbits and socializing with Rotarians across the State).  Dr. Bridget Bongaard (RC of Maui) will start us off, followed by tips on planting plants by Carole Reynolds (RC of Hickam Pearl-Harbor), Tai Chi movements by Dr. Randy Wong and then relaxation techniques by Dr. Lynn Goya (RC of Wahiawa-Waialua). Dr. Bridget Bongaard is an Internal Medicine physician, Fellow of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, and is the Medical Director of the Maui Cancer Wellness Retreats, an educational integrative oncology program for all patients with cancer for symptom relief and to improve their wellbeing and outcomes.      Carole Reynolds is a Director for the Hickam Chapel.  She says, "I am an "herbalist in training", my experience comes from watching my grand-mother at home in Trinidad. Diet therapist by trade with broad experience, my focus is health and wellness and what it means to you. Specializing in work related stress, by providing the Spa at home/work experience."
     Dr. Randy Wong integrates energy healing with surgery to help patients recover faster with less pain and discomfort.  He has been practicing medicine, surgery, and teaching Tai Chi over 30 years and encourages all of us to use our mind-body-spirit connection for healthy self-defense.  He teaches regular Online Zoom classes at

     Dr. Lynn Goya is a psychologist in Mililani who specializes in treating anxiety, depression, and ADHD in children and adults.  The therapies she utilizes ranges from behavioral techniques, neurofeedback, and traditional talk therapy, to animal-assisted therapy (she has a certified therapy dog as her co-therapist).

Seek help when needed– If distress impacts activities of your daily life for several days or weeks, talk to a clergy member, counselor, or doctor, or contact the SAMHSA helpline at 1-800-985-5990. AMHD Crisis Line is 832-3100.

Look out for these common signs of distress:
  • Feelings of numbness, disbelief, anxiety or fear.
  • Changes in appetite, energy, and activity levels.
  • Difficulty concentrating.
  • Difficulty sleeping or nightmares and upsetting thoughts and images.
  • Physical reactions, such as headaches, body pains, stomach problems, and skin rashes.
  • Worsening of chronic health problems.
  • Anger or short temper.
  • Increased use of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs.
If you experience these feelings or behaviors for several days in a row and are unable to carry out normal responsibilities because of them, seek professional help.

Volunteers needed to help Kupuna.  We are launching very soon and partnering with GRAMMI services on all islands to:
  1. Manning a call center for incoming grocery orders and outgoing calls to kupuna to stay in touch
  2. Assemble grocery orders at Times Supermarket and other markets for curbside pickup once a week for 1-2 hours on all islands.
