Our 51 Rotary clubs in District 5000 are quite a powerhouse of goodwill and community activity. As you are aware, this "Avenue" relates to the activities that Rotarians undertake to improve the quality of life in their community. Particular emphasis is given to helping children, needy families, the aged, the handicapped, and those most in need of assistance. Rotarians strive to promote the ideal of service in their personal, business, and community lives and Community Service is one of the most important public venues in that regard.
The District would very much like to hear from each club regarding their Community Service activities so that we can put them in the news/events pages. Contacting Win Schoneman at comservd5000@hawaii.rr.com with news/activity information will get such information put up on the website.

Waianae Coast Rotary Club (WCRC) Service Projects
Jul 2015 to December 2015
WCRC is a very active club with 33 members and conducted 26 projects from July thru December 2015. Highlighting our service is our annual Waianae Coast Christmas Parade and Ho’olaule’a. This event is the most widely attended event held on the Waianae Coast with 85 organizations and 2,800 participants, 11 floats and an estimated 4,000 people observing and enjoying the parade along Farrington Highway. This is our 21st Annual Parade and we recognized “Rotary’s 100 Years of Service with Aloha” and our Grand Marshal was District Governor Del Green. Past District Governors Roz Cooper and Lisa Foster also participate in our parade.
Our second stellar project is our 96792 Calendar Photo Contest where armature photographers from Waianae compete in this photo contest to have their photos displayed in our calendar which are sold to raise funds for our Dictionary Program. Our Calendar sale is published on our Website and we have many purchases from mainland Rotarians and international purchases from Japan, Europe and Canada.
WCRC is also a part of the Waianae Coast Disaster Readiness Team and is involved in coordinating the Hawaii Hazards Awareness and Resilience Program (HHARP) to prepare the communities along the Waianae Coast to prepare during natural and manmade disasters.
