Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset's second project funded by the Hawai'i Rotary District 5000 Foundation's Maui Fires Relief Fund goes to S-Turns Project.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset is actively supporting displaced residents in West Maui, following the devastating Maui Fires. Numerous volunteer-run relief centers, such as Napili Park, S-Turns at Pohaku Beach Park, and Honokowai Beach Park, are providing vital services, offering stalls with donated goods for the residents now staying in hotels, condos, or with loved ones.

Although smaller in size due to its constrained location and limited parking, S-Turns relief center is a key hub for many, particularly those staying in nearby vacation rentals like Sands of Kahana. Recognizing the pressing need, the center's director, Mr. Manu Akana, shared a list of essential items with our Rotary members.

Responding swiftly, the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset approved a proposal to allocate up to $1,000 for the purchase and delivery of these items. This initiative was one of the six projects chosen from 14 submitted proposals. Club members Mariko Higashi and Ravi Bugga spearheaded the immediate action, successfully purchasing and delivering $500 worth of supplies a day after funding approval. A heartwarming moment was captured in a photo, showing Mariko and Ravi alongside the dedicated volunteer staff of the relief center.
